On April 2nd to 4th 2024 the project principal investigator Žarko Kovač attended the Workshop on Numerical Circulation and Ecosystem Modeling at the Flatiron insitute in New York.
The workshop was organized by the Simons Collaboration on Computational Biogeochemical Modeling of Marine Ecosystems and was attended by 25 participants.
The goal of the workshop was to make a comprehensive review of ocean biogeochemical numerical simulation platforms and applications. The workshop featured recent developments in ecosystem modelling, focusing on enhancing model resolution and functionality. Hands-on breakout sessions allowed participants to engage with the models. New users gained practical experience with current modelling frameworks.
Discussions centered on future goals for ecosystem model development, incorporating new data sets for quantitative evaluation, and advancing biogeographical simulations. The event promoted collaboration and set the stage for next-generation ecosystem modeling. More on the workshop can be found here.
At the workshop Žarko Kovač presented the ongoing work on primary production time series analysis and parameter estimation which is currently being developed as part of PHOTOCLIM activities.
