As part of project activities we are conducting experiments at sea. These experiemnts involve measurement of chlorophyll concentration and carbon assimilation in photosnythsis.

The experiments are conducted by the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split at two stations in the Adriatic Sea approximately once per month. Thus far this year there have been 11 cruises carried out to each of these two stations. The first station, which is coastal, is located in the Kaštela Bay and the second station is on the open sea near the island of Vis.
The experiments are performed aboard the research vessel BIOS, which remains at each station for approximately six hours while experiments are being carried out. The results of these measurements provide us with insights into the vertical distribution of chlorophyll and primary production (photosynthesis). The results of these experiment help us parametrize biooptical models of photosynthesis which are being developed as part of our project activities.
As part of project activities we have also completed the digitalization of historical data from these two stations. To the best of our knowledge, these two time series or in situ measured primary production are the longest continous records in the world. The new measurements carried out during the past two years of our project also enable us to extend these two time series.
